After four years of hype, beginning with 2008’s “Iron Man,” “The Avengers” finally hit the screens and met, if not exceeded, all its insurmountable expectations. The action was plentiful and engaging while not overwhelming. Best of all, the cast was superbly handled by director/writer Joss Whedon with all its large, primary cast, given purpose and treated with respect.
And with that being said, the entire cast, who included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemmsworth, Samuel J. Jackson, Scarlett Johanssen and Jeremy Renner, all gave top-notch performances with humor and depth. Granted, it was not on the same plain as “The Dark Knight,” but it was still marvelous entertainment at its most perfected.
